I blinked, and it’s been three years already since relocating back to Scotland and starting a new life in Edinburgh. One would think that three years is enough time to get to know the city and be able to write a short blog post about it. Well, here I proved myself wrong.
I have been so busy with rebuilding my life as a 50% single parent of kids and a pet – settling in, renovations, part-time studies, work and managing all other day-to-day life activities. That I haven’t quite made it yet to visit either the Edinburgh Castle, or the Arthur’s Seat, or the Edinburgh Zoo, or the coolest bars, or the many restaurants, or the Fringe Festival. The boys have seen many Edinburgh city touristic places with the other parent. I have seen and been there many-many years ago as a tourist. Although, since living here, I haven’t really been out into the city much, except for work, run, quick catch up, or occasional shopping experience. Hence, this blog post will not cover the usual Edinburgh touristic destinations or specific insight about the city. I might include these in the future blogs, once I revisit and discover new places.
In retrospection of living here over the last few years, I still like to live here because of the initial things that attracted me to this city – great schools, an international airport and a diverse multicultural community.
At the time of writing this, my favourite things about living in Edinburgh are the sunsets that I see daily from either my bedroom window or a local park. The sunrises that brighten my morning. The weather – which is neither too hot or too cold. The vast choice of ice-cream shops with at least one found in each part of the city. And, the close proximity of nice beaches and hills with a possibility to visit both within one day.
I asked the boys what do they like about living here.
They like the schools, their new friends, the cat which they can have at my house, and of course, they like all the parks we get to go to, the ice-cream and coffee shops.
It is a beautiful place to live.
We love being here.
