Hey All,
As some of you know, one of my favourite movies is The Notebook. When Allie was older, she was suffering from dementia. Noah was reading to her at the care home in trying to help her to remember her life, and their love story.
In late 2023, I came across a book (in the local charity shop) called “Somebody I used to know” by Wendy Mitchell. Wendy was sharing her story of dementia. Since reading the book, the topic of dementia has been close to my heart – I was only 38 at that time, but I realised that one day it could also be my story because anyone can potentially develop dementia, and at the moment, there is no cure.
Wendy was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 58 and has been an advocate for living positively with dementia through her blog “Which me am I today”, and through her books until her death at the age of 68 on February 22, 2024.
I’m taking part in Walk For A Cure because I want to raise awareness, help to find a cure, and end the devastation of dementia.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to finding a cure.
Research is our only chance of stopping dementia in its tracks and offering hope to the many families affected.
Your donation will fuel cutting-edge research that could uncover new life-changing treatments, bringing us closer to a cure.
If you are in Edinburgh 🏴, feel free to join my Team for this walk on the 20th July 2025. Team name: Dementia-CureX.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Natalie
